PART-TIME DRIVER - BEDFORD LOCAL TRANSIT




The Town of Bedford is seeking reliable and customer-focused part-time Driver for the Bedford Local Transit (BLT) service. Funded in part by the MBTA, the BLT provides door-to-door transportation for Bedford residents, including older adults and individuals with disabilities, using an 8-passenger wheelchair accessible van.

Responsibilities include safely transporting riders; assisting passengers in and out of the vehicle; operating wheelchair lifts and securing wheelchairs, walkers, and other mobility devices; coordinating daily schedules; collecting fares; maintaining travel logs and operational records; conducting daily vehicle inspections and safety checks; and completing required MBTA and Town documentation.

Candidates must possess a valid Massachusetts Class D driver’s license with a clean driving record and have strong customer service skills. Experience working with older adults and individuals with disabilities, knowledge of Bedford roadways, and First Aid/CPR certification are preferred. Candidates must be proficient with email and Microsoft Excel.

Physical demands include frequent lifting, bending, reaching, kneeling, working in tight spaces, and getting in and out of vehicle. The ability to safely assist passengers, operate wheelchair lifts, secure mobility devices, and lift up to 50 pounds is required.

Applicants must successfully complete a CORI/SORI check, pre-employment physical and drug screen, and are subject to random drug and alcohol testing. Required Massachusetts Rural Transit Assistance Program (MArtap) training is preferred or must be obtained upon hire.

The regular schedule is every other Saturday, 10 am to 3 pm. Additional back up hours are available on weekdays as needed throughout the year.

This is a part-time, non-benefits eligible position with an hourly pay rate of $25.
