LATERAL POLICE OFFICER




The Town of Bedford is seeking qualified, experienced candidates for lateral transfer to our Police Department. The Bedford Police Department is a modern, progressive agency that is fully accredited by the Massachusetts Police Accreditation Commission. We put our community members first and serve our residents, business owners, workers and visitors with integrity and pride. This is a non-Civil Service hiring process.

Lateral transfers/post certified candidates do not have to take the entrance examination and may receive credit for education and experience.

Salary Range: $69,595–$80,968, plus night differential, holiday pay, and specialty pay. Candidates with a qualifying college degree may be eligible for up to an additional 25% career incentive above the base pay.

JOB DUTIES:
Bedford Police Officers work under supervision to perform law enforcement duties, protecting life, property, and civil rights of individuals. Primary duties include patrol; interacting with citizens to provide service and assistance; and preparing and completing records, reports and incidents. Bedford Police Officers are dispatched to crime and emergency scenes in response to reported violations, crashes, domestic disputes, and civil matters; carry out crime scene duties; make arrests and perform searches and seizures, render medical aid and other assistance; conduct investigations; and interview witnesses, suspects and complainants.

REQUIREMENTS:
Candidates must be a U.S citizen, at least 21 years of age and possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license. A Massachusetts License to Carry Firearms is a requirement for the position. Candidates must possess a HS diploma or GED or higher education. Candidates must reside within 30 miles from their hometown’s border to the Town of Bedford’s border.

Candidates will be subjected to an extensive background investigation, medical/physical evaluation and psychological screening.
